The Office.

The Office
At my desk I sit, and shuffle,
Invoices, demands, and stern rebuttals.
My PC Screen, at regulation height,
my office chair set 'just right'.
My hopes my dreams, all taking flight.
It's overtime, again tonight.
Oh what dread Ghoul, this system grim,
Didst thinkst was good, what's in it for him?
The Watercooler gloops, in sympathy,
My wagecheck, eases not  penury.
Oh what dark monster, fierce and grim,
rules this world we're living in?
And now, a book, I must sideline.
For minimum wage, and a maddening time.
For daily assault course of public transport dire,
oh, cast it all upon a pyre!
The Apes and Monkeys had it right.
Cleverness leads to nought but spite.
Happiness lies in fruit and leaves,
a paradise in the boughs of trees.

By Tamara Wilding 2016 sadly thinking of work.
